Here she talks about many issues including dwindling self-su¬fficiency where we are 99.75% reliant on ‘imports’; the long, slow march of local food movements; the historical impact of Manchester’s industrial mindset on the table; catering for students and the value mentality from shopping basket to multimillion procurement spend.


Wangari Maathai – ‘Some lessons from the Global South for a Steady State Manchester’

Wangari Maathai, was the first environmentalist and African woman to get a Nobel Peace Prize and founder of the Kenyan Green Belt Movement. The Green Belt Movement works at grassroots, national, and international levels to promote: environmental conservation, build climate resilience, empower communities, especially women and girls, and foster democratic space and sustainable livelihoods
