  Salford Information Observatory

  The observatory is a collaborative effort between Salford City Council and a number of statutory bodies including the Fire Service, Greater Manchester Police, the Probation Service and the NHS PCT. It acts as a repository for data, information and knowledge. Potentially, this represents a very valuable resource for the University in terms of readily accessible local data on crime, health and other issues.
  
  As part of the Manchester Beacon for Public Engagement, following a workshop to explore the issues and develop ideas, we commissioned a pilot project to explore how the Salford Information Observatory might be exploited for the mutual benefit of both Salford City Council and the University.
